The Tlemcen Model Forest (Algeria) have three sites with three different ecosystems: maritime, forestry and steppe. They are necessary for the economic development of the area, in particular; the steppe for livestock, the forest for agriculture and timber and the maritime for fishing. 

The Alegrino government wanted to follow the development process of a Model Forest to raise awareness of respect for local resources, as a support to increase local economies. This is why numerous projects have been carried out together with local entities especially in the agricultural field and aimed to protecting environment and landscapes.
