On the 8th of June the territory of the Valle dell’Aterno Model Forest hosted the final event of the project ASMed - From the Apennines to the Shouf: migrations of experiences and knowledge across the Mediterranean.
The project was funded by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS) and worked on exchange actions between Italy and Lebanon with purposes of best practices replication. One of the main actions is also promoting the path to create the first Model Forest in Lebanon right in Shouf.
The event took place in Fontecchio, one of the municipalities of the Valle dell’Aterno MF, where there was also a ceremony of signing the official twinning between the Al-Shouf Cedar Society, the Valle dell’Aterno MF and the Sirente Velino Regional Natural Park.
On the same day the Secretariat of the Mediterranean Model Forest Network and the Al-Shouf Cedar Society signed the memorandum of understanding that, after the formal request to enter the IMFN, represents another step forward on the path to establish the first Model Forest in Lebanon.
During the day also the activities and results of the ASMed projects were presented, with a focus on the role of local communities in the sustainable development of the mountain territories.
