The International Day of Forests was celebrated throughout the entire Mediterranean Network with several events which involved the communities and their territories. Here we present two of these events, the one organized in Morocco by the Ifrane Model Forest and the Greece one, in the territory of the Western Macedonia Model Forest.
The Associacion Forèt Modèle Ifrane (AFMI) took part in supervising and leading an exceptional study day organised on Thursday 21 March 2024 by the Association d'Aménagement Forestier et de Développement de la Commune de Tigrigra in partnership with the Association Sebt Ghnim pour la Protection et la Gestion des Ressources Naturelles, the Direction Provinciale des Eaux et Forêts d'Ifrane, and the Parc National d'Ifrane.
Under the theme "How can the conservation of forest areas contribute to sustainable development", the day was marked by presentations from eminent professors and enriching interaction with a large audience. It provided an opportunity for all the organisations present to learn about the development and management of the Ifrane National Park, in accordance with the twenty-four agreements signed in Ifrane by all the stakeholders.
AFMI played a crucial role in the success of the event, contributing its expertise and commitment to forest conservation. This exemplary collaboration demonstrates the importance of working together for a greener, more sustainable future.
The same day AFMI celebrating the International Day of Forests also in collaboration with the Association des Enseignants des Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre au Maroc (AESVT) Ifrane - Azrou section and Achaymae school.
This part of the day took place at the magnificent tourist site of Modmame, in the heart of the Azrou forest. Young participants took part in exciting workshops and practical sessions, discovering the wealth of local biodiversity, techniques for sustainable management of forest resources and the many benefits of reforestation.
Flying to Greece, the Western Macedonia Model Forest in collaboration with the Municipality of Voio, the Forest Services of Regional Unit of Kozani, CERTH (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas) and the support of the Koukoulidis Foundation, took part in an event for the International Day of Forests at the Town Hall in Siatista, highlighted the role and the benefits of the forests. The students of the Primary and High Schools of Siatista participated in the event.
After that the participants planted selected trees that are well-suited to the local climate, soil conditions, and ecological requirements in two areas outside of the city of Siatista, to establish an Urban Forest.
