Last week, the MMFN Secretariat was proud to participate in the EFI 2024 Annual Conference in Bonn, Germany. The event offered an enriching platform for exchange and dialogue. Toni Ventre, our secretary, took part in two significant sessions: the "Network of Networks" event organized by the Horizon Europe project TRANSFORMIT, and the Scientific Seminar on Integrative Forest Management: Perspectives from Science, Policy, and Practice hosted by EFI.
The "Network of Networks" session, focused on adapting forest management to integrate multiple objectives, brought together stakeholders from policy, science, practice, media, and civil society. Key discussions addressed integrative forest management, exploring current frameworks, potential conflicts and synergies, and opportunities for collaboration and funding. Prof. Georg Winkel (Wageningen University) delivered an inspiring keynote, setting the stage for a World Café session that facilitated dialogue between various stakeholders, including policymakers, conservationists, media, scientists, and forest owners.
The Scientific Seminar on Integrative Forest Management, held on September 19th, delved into modern challenges in forest management, particularly in promoting biodiversity and forest resilience. Topics included best practices across Europe, innovative projects addressing Integrative Forest Management (IFM), and strategies to balance biodiversity conservation with the need for forest resilience and disturbance mitigation. MMFN participated in the session dedicated to Networks, recognized as a best practice in fostering local community involvement in forest management.
