In 2025, forests and foods is the theme for the day, celebrating the crucial roles of forests in food security, nutrition and livelihoods. In addition to providing food, fuel, income and employment, forests support soil fertility, protect water resources, and offer habitats for biodiversity, including vital pollinators. They are essential for the survival of forest-dependent communities, particularly Indigenous Peoples, and contribute to climate change mitigation by storing carbon. |

Survey Preliminary Results: Mediterranean Model Forest Network and ecosystem services |

In the last months of 2024, Annalisa Spalazzi, researcher and collaborator of the Valle dell’Aterno Model Forest, conducted an analysis on the perception, knowledge, and planning of ecosystem services in Mediterranean Model Forests.
The initial results from the questionnaires were presented in Barcelona during the Med Forum at the 8th Mediterranean Forest Week and are now available for download. |

STAI - Tools and skills of living in the mountains - a new project for the Valle dell’Aterno Model Forest |
|
Project STAI by Valle Aterno Model Forest is the ongoing project funded by Action Aid Italy and Realizza Il Cambiamento Foundation.
The goal is to support new and future small agrosilvopastoral business enterprises in the Media Valle dell’Aterno and Valle Subequana area. |

| “A Year of Action” - Discover the Mediterranean Youth Task Force Roadmap 2025 | | With the new Coordinating Board and Coordinating Committee established, the Mediterranean Youth Task Force (MYTF) is ready to move forward with a clear roadmap to achieve its goals.
Several new initiatives are planned, including a Youth Magazine, Podcast Series, Career Bootcamp, and MedForest Journal. Additionally, they are gathering voices from young people to be integrated into their Joint Statement with the Mediterranean Model Forest Network. This free resource addresses the growing challenges of climate hazards in the Mediterranean region, focusing on innovative solutions in forestry and agriculture. Featuring contributions from experts at 16 European research institutions and case studies from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Cyprus, this MOOC combines cutting-edge research with practical knowledge.
